Field Trip : Central Market

A picture heavy post.
Our third field trip was at Central Market in Kuala Lumpur.
there were very few of us that went on that day, but i really enjoyed walking around the market and looking at all the colourful things around the place.

this was the entrance.

some of the structures and statues outside Central Market.

some of the souvenirs that were sold.
hand crafts.

Chinese calligraphy and water colour painting.

hand made bracelets and necklaces.

Then we went along a road and i was literally awestruck because i saw many paintings and artworks at that area.
Portrait sketch of John lennon and Angelina Jolie.

portraits of ministers and famous people from malaysia

This artist was painting a portrait of a lady by referring to her photo. the painting looks so real and alike.

The artist's palette and the colours he used.

Caricatures.
A man was cleaning the drawing that was done with ink and pen. It was the scenery of Kuala Lumpur City.

Side profile sketching of an indian lady. I love how detail the drawing is, especially on her jeweleries.

At another artist's shop where he does his sketching, colouring and drawing using oil and soft pastels.

there was even a potrait of Prince William.

I was happy that i could see him do the pastel artwork and how he does the shading and colouring, because i have never seen a portrait done with oil and soft pastels.
the picture he was reffering to and the pastels he used.

Oil and acrylic painting.

the acrylic paints and pastels the artist used. So many colours was on the block of wood that he used as his palette.

Same picture and drawing but is coloured three different ways. Really nice to look at how colours can change the mood and look of a picture.

some of the oil paintings outside the shop.

a colourful and bright oil painting using the dotting technique that caught my attention. So pretty and nice to look at.

I was really impressed with the sand artwork of this man. he fills in and arranges sand in the bottle to form a pattern or design that is really detailed and precised.

he was doing an elephant design while we were watching.
and Tada!!! the picture below was the end result. Amazing!

Some of his other sand artwork ;

Then we visited the Amerian and Chinese pop art gallery. I could only take a picture of the banner coz we weren't allowed to take any pictures in the gallery, but all the painting inside was really awesome. The colours were very bold, bright and the patterns were very distinct and it easily caught my attention.

Batik Artwork in the batik Gallery.

This is a really cool painting that i bumped into. Our lecturer took a picture of it and showed it to us, so i went around searching for it. Wish i could have this picture, but like most beautiful painting, it was really pricey.

Lastly, A picture of me and the painting i really liked.

i also saw the Graffiti artwork along the river near the lrt station, but my phone ran out of battery so i couldn't take any pictures of it. Overall, it was a great experience for me looking at all the artwork and crafts around the market. I would definitely go over to central market again. I also think that it is a wonderful place for tourist to go to since most of the things inside the market are mostly very traditional and portrays Malaysia very well.

Field Trip : National Visual Art Gallery

Thats me at the entrance of the gallery.

As usual, i didn't get a chance to take pictures at the gallery but here are the ones i managed to snap.

This was the huge painting on the center of the wall when i entered the gallery. in the painting there was a male human who looked like a puppet controlled by strings and there was 3 frogs at the corner laughing at him.

This is how the inside of the building looks like.

Look at this very interesting piece. from distant it looked very cute, fun and colourful right?

but when i went upclose, i realised this structure was made my brushes! those brushes asians usually use to scrub sinks ans toilets. i was really shocked, but it was definitely very creative.

the following are metal structures.

The first two structures below were named 'The Killing Tools' in the year 1994 and the third one is named 'Semangat Besi' in the year 2000. these were made by Raja Shariman Raja Aziddin.

Dasom and Adlin

the oil painting of a mother holding her child by the shirt using her mouth below was by Ahmad Fuad Osman in the year 2006.
the name of the painting is Fatamorgana #5 - Flying Lessons

the painting below is called 'Happy Garden' by Chang Yoong Chia and it was done in the year 2005.

and the last picture i managed to take on that day is this painting by Syed Ahamd Jamal in the year 1957. called 'Mandi Laut' this painting is 55 years old.

At the end of the trip, one painting really captivated me, and it was called 'alis in wonderland' instead of the usual 'Alice' it was a very colourful and vibrant painting and instead of a girl, there was a boy in the painting. I can stand in front of the painting and look at it for a long time, because there was so much to look at in the painting. sadly, i don't have a picture of it since it was in the gallery.

Trip to Petronas Art Gallery

The field trip to the Petronas Art Gallery was really a great experience for me, because its my first time going to an art gallery. It was very exciting and the experience was certainly not disappointing at all. I was so happy that i get to look at the local artist's paintings and artworks that were displayed at the gallery during that time. I never knew there were so many talented artist in our country. Seeing how they portray and interpret Malaysia in their own way really captivated me. Made me really proud to be a Malaysian. Sadly, we were not allowed to take any pictures of the artwork. Although i did manage to take some pictures outside the gallery.

The children artworks related to Malaysia were pinned on the 'I Art Malaysia' board.

We get to sign on the 'I Art Malaysia' board.

Esty signing.

Adlin looking at a sketch work.
 Dasom viewing the children's artwork.

I didn't want to miss the photo session!

My Favorite Colour

my favorite colour is probably the most common colour that is generally like by most people. it is the colour red. During class, we were explained that red is the warmest of all colours and is the colour most chosen by extroverts. it also symbolizes life, love and lust. Can even represent temper or anger. besides that, red illustrates and goves the vibe of fierce, daring and sexy.

I like how the female dancers of paso doble wear red dresses when they are performing . In a paso doble dance they represent the cape of the matador during bullfighting. So the flow and the moves of their red dresses makes the dance much more exciting and attention grabbing when it is watched.

I also like most red flowers because to me, they look much more romantic compared to the other colours. Also, i feel like red flowers are more appealing.

lastly for this picture, i like how the blue in in contrast with the red. which creates depths and movements.

Assignment Topic : Child Abuse

We were given a choice to choose between two topics for our assignment and it was either 'Child Labour' or 'Child Abuse'. I decided to choose child abuse, and this is because while i was doing my research on these two topics, i was more moved and i felt a greater sympathy towards the topic child abuse from the video and images that i have seen. Not that child labour did not get my attention, but i wasn't very keen on choosing it as my topic.
Child abuse is not just about bruises or broken bones. It is more than what we actually assume or think it is. Physical abuse includes shaking, beating, burning, or even biting a child and it is the most obvious type of child abuse. but there are other types of abuses as well, and some we don't usually notice because there are not visible. For instance, emotional abuse. Emotional abuse happens when the child experiences constant and excessive shouting, yelling, shaming, blaming and putting down or making a child feel worthless. Other than that, neglect is also a form of abuse. This happens when the parents/guardian of a child fails or does not provide the child's basic needs for example, food, clothing, hygiene. Also, failure to provide the child's emotional needs, such as supervision, attention and affection. Besides that, most people may not be aware of this but a child may also be sexually abused. This can happen when a child is exposed to inappropriate materials, sexual stimulation, and forced sexual activities. This does not only happen to girls, boys may also suffer from sexual abuse and it will most likely to affect them due to shame, pride and stigma. (Smith & Segal, 2012)
All types of child abuse will leave scars that last. physical scars might not last forever but emotional ones has a lasting effect in their lives. Children who are abused will believe that they have no value, they believe that they cannot affect the people around them with good behavior, and constantly feel depressed, frustrated or angry. (UNICEF, 2011)
Even in Malaysia, statistics from the Department of Social Welfare show a rise in reported child abuse cases. " In 2008, child abuse reports rose to 2,780 from 2,279 in 2007 and 1,999 in 2006. Based on 2008 reported figures, neglect is the most common form of child abuse (952 cases), followed by physical abuse (863 cases). Sexual abuse accounted for 733 cases, of which 529 (72%) were incest.Failure to provide care and supervision has become the most frequent cause of death among children. In 2008, 58 cases of abandoned babies were also reported. Tragically, most child abusers of reported cases are parents, immediate family members, relatives or foster parents of the victims themselves." (UNICEF)

These are some of the pictures for child abuse;
